Pétanque is a game that originated in France and has been played for more than 100 years in countries around the world. It's a game that is easy to understand and enjoy, and beginners pick up the rules and basic strategies very quickly. It is a wonderfully social game and new players soon get hooked as they learn to understand the strategies of competitive play at club, regional, national and international level. The sport is enjoyed by both men and women and it appeals to players of all ages. It is inexpensive to play and there are over 45 clubs spread around New Zealand. You'll find friendly welcoming people at each of the clubs, and they all have plenty of boules available for you to 'give it a go' at little or no cost.
