Where in the world can you sit at the desk of a world-famous writer? Handle her notebooks. See how she lived as a child? 56 Eden Street is the childhood home of Janet Frame. It’s a tribute to Oamaru’s famous author with the house lovingly refurbished to represent the time she was there. Janet Frame herself donated her desk and typewriter to the Janet Frame Eden Street Trust and they are just two of the very special items visitors can expect to see and touch. To find out about the Trust visit our website. Open hours are 2-4pm daily from 1 November -30 April or by request on 03 434 2300. ’56 Eden Street has been restored with an historian’s reverence and care, yet it does not all have the chill or distance of a museum. It feels like a family home.’ ~ Anna Smaill, writer. Come visit. Stay a while. We’d love to see you.
