I help support a semi nomadic tribe in Borneo, the Penan, whose livelihoods are threatened by the palm oil plantations taking over as logging of the rainforest continues unabated. 15 years ago I moved there as a teacher and my holidays gave me the time to set up a weaving collaborative as the basis of our charity that continues to support them. The craft they produce is second to none now in quality, contemporary design and durability. All profits obtained from the sale of their weaving are returned to them. We help transport the children to and from school, they are frequently raped by loggers, provide them with essentials for school, health, food, flood recovery and much more. I know these families personally, this cause could not be closer to my heart.
