Bay of Islands Group Riding for the Disabled Association Incorporated provides therapeutic riding and horse mastership for children and adults who are physically or intellectually challenged or have learning or social disabilities. Therapeutic riding and interaction with horses develops increased ability and self- esteem, better balance, co-ordination, increased concentration and communication. The objects of our group are to promote the behavioural, physical, emotional, educational and social rehabilitation and well-being of the disabled residents of the Mid North and Bay of Islands and to provide information, coaching, education and expert advice on the use of facilities and programmes to ensure safe and beneficial participation irrespective of age and ability. Our riders attend to achieve a specific goal, therapeutic, educational or sporting. Riding is an activity that crosses all cultures and ability levels, it can help integrate people with disabilities into the community. The culture at RDA influences rider growth and creates positive outcomes whatever the disability.
