The 'Weather Bomb'
Was the absolute drenching we have just endured a normal, say once in 100 years 'weather event' or was it a clear signal that climate change is real and is happening now.
The Indian novelist Amita Ghosh, in his book 'The Great Derangment' said that our lives are "not guided by reason, it is ruled by the inertia of habitual motion. This is the condition of the vast majority of human beings, which is why very few of us will be able to adapt to global warming if it is left to us, as individuals, to make the necessary changes."
Maybe the drenching we got has nothing to do with climate change and the 'atmospheric river' that sent the 'weather bomb' was just one of those things that just happen. Weather is a fickle thing after all, and once we do the tidy up, we can forget about the 'Big Wet of '22' and carry on as 'normal', whatever that means.
