Canterbury floods: Rescued farmer knocked into river by 'wall of water'
Hi neighbours,
Sitting on a tree with water and debris raging around him, Paul Adams decided to give up battling the torrent and wait for help to come.
The Ashburton dairy farmer had been his paddock trying to get his calves to safety in near darkness early on Sunday morning. It was raining heavily, with the water about knee-deep, but it was not swift.
In a flash, he lost his footing and was swept down the raging Ashburton River.
"I've heard other people say there were walls of water coming – they'd actually physically seen these walls of water – so I'm guessing that's what happened to me, because I just lost it and I got bloody sucked in," Adams told Stuff on Monday.
