ASB Bank -closure of Whangaparaoa Branch and reduced ATM services

Graeme from Army Bay

For the information of members who previously banked with ASB at the Plaza Whangaparaoa, you will now be aware that our local branch has closed. What you may not know is that the promises that most banking functions could still be carried our by using the ATM lobby at the Plaza is not correct.
Previously it was possible to lodge cheques thru the ATM but in attempting to do this a week ago, found that feeding them in one by one had been replaced by a requirement to place them in a deposit bag.
Unfortunately, there were no bags in the lobby. I complained to ASB who said this was because branch staff previously kept them stocked but now, reliant on Armourguard who had clearly slipped up.
My first chance to get back in yet another attempt to lodge a cheque was yesterday. Still no bags!
However, that was the least of the problems. The ATM had been re-programmed only to receive cash as a deposit. NO CHEQUES to be lodge in any way shape or form.
Complained to the Bank again and was told that all I needed to do was tp travel to Silverdale or Orewa and that in any event, as cheques were being phased out (August 28) this would apply in the meantime.
It seems that this Bank and any others seem to have no trouble contacting their customers when it suits the Bank - but the courtesy of letting us know in advance of the diminishing services did not occur to them.
The Bank responded by phone to my latest complaint - but we had a failure to agree on the explanations given which apparently related to their unwillingness to pay to have Armourgard service the ATM on a daily basis.
So ASB Customers on the Peninsula, be aware that you will now need to travel off the Peninsula if you wish to do anything other than to lodge or wirhdraw cash from the Plaza ATM.
Later this morning, I received an email from the Bank stating that my complaint No 7002 had been resolved. I DONT THINK SO!
