Restricted fire season for rural Manawatu
The Manawatu, Rangitikei and Palmerston North rural districts are now in a restricted fire season.
The restrictions came in at 8am today, with a ban on any outdoor fires unless a permit has been granted by Fire and Emergency.
Principal Rural Fire Officer Bradley Shanks says that the drier conditions have warranted a change from an open fire season.
"A restricted fire season means you will need to apply for a permit for any outdoor fire and follow the conditions listed on your fire permit," he says.
Here's what you need to know:
- You must have a fire permit to light any outdoor fires.
- Hangi, umu and gas-fired barbecues are still permitted.
