Visa Phone scam
Please inform your whanau especially our older community that there are automated SCAM phone calls happening in our district. I have been rung three times in the past couple of weeks. One scam says my Spark bill is over due and to press one to talk to someone, please hang up. Today I had an automated (robot call) call from a FAKE Visa credit card company saying there were overseas charges on my credit card mounting to $2000 and for me to press 1 to stop charges, or 2 to accept. If I had undertaken any of these actions I would have been charged or my identity could have been compromised. PLEASE, PLEASE TALK AND INFORM OUR KAUMATUA/ELDERLY, VULNERABLE WHANAU WHO MAY NOT UNDERSTAND THIS IS A SCAM BECOME UPSET AND JUST PAY. THESE MONGREL SCAMMERS WILL KEEP ON TARGETING THEM. If in doubt tell our vulnerable whanau to ring the real company on their official phone number (not one from the scam call) and speak to them, or talk to the Police if they have concerns. You can also look on the Netsafe website for information www.netsafe.org.nz...
