The Orange Moon

Robert Neighbourly Lead from Browns Bay

Just in case you've missed the beautiful sight of the orange Moon last night around 7 p.m. The colour was caused by the "scattering" effect of atmospheric particles (aka Rayleigh scattering) - shorter wavelengths of light (e.g. blue) get scattered while the longer ones (e.g. orange and red) pass through. This usually happens when the Moon is closer to the horizon, causing light to pass through a thicker layer of the Earth's atmosphere.
