Petone Library to be pulled down
Was at Petone Library for a HCC Heritage Policy Review [for we the peoples input].
In discussion about the Heritage of the HUTT itself, mainly Petone. I was
stunned to learn that Petone Library [which I use often] is in the throws of plans to pull it down and for Urban Plus [HCC owned] to build a large residential 4 story complex, taking out the trees and carpark.
This followed on with 'near Pak n Save Petone' a 6 story Urban plus residential housing area to be built.
Happy to hear the Hutt is being proactive with housing for those who need it.....BUT this information had not been heard of by myself.
The saga of Oddfellows Hall Petone being pulled down, Heritage building but slipped thru the cracks.
10 people joined us, and great discussion....WHAT does a Heritage Policy contain...How old is a property, church, sport venue, archaeology, cemetery, architect design, river, the era, whats RMA, Historic Buildings state?
Go online to the city council District plan.
THAT is the question....what is the answer.
MOST interesting and informative.
Next week Wainuiomata is holding a session.
