Water contamination of popular swimming spot
A hugely popular floating playground will not return to Napier this summer due to water contamination.
The 28m by 19m 'Splash Zone', installed on Pandora Pond by Napier City Council in 2016, attracted more than 20,000 people last summer, but has not been installed this summer. This week the council said the feature would not be installed at all this summer.
A spokeswoman said the council was working with Hawke's Bay Regional Council towards more permanent solutions to the estuary's water quality issues with other stakeholders including Mana Ahuriri Trust and Te Komiti Muriwai o te Whanga.
