Person in Palmerston North Hospital with meningitis
A person is in Palmerston North Hospital suffering from meningococcal disease. The diagnosis been confirmed, but medical officer of health Dr Rob Weir said it would be some time before it would be known whether it was the MenW strain that sparked a mass immunisation programme in Northland. He said people who might have been in contact with the MidCentral District Health Board case were being followed up. Close contacts were being offered antibiotics. Read more
