Poll: Should fireworks be banned?
A North Canterbury family came close to losing their home last week after someone set off fireworks nearby, causing a fire.
Jessica Murray and her husband, 6-month-old baby and two dogs had to evacuate their Kaiapoi home last week when a rogue firework came close to burning their house down.
They're now backing a campaign by a Rangiora resident to get fireworks banned from the Waimakariri district.
Petition organiser Arthur Linnell says he's "not a killjoy ... but I do think a public display is the only way to go. Sometimes we have to bring laws in to protect us from stupid people".
