Respiratory Virus
Hi everybody; my family has been hit with a bug this winter season that has the primary symptom of a persistent barking cough. On 2 occasions I witnessed this before we developed symptoms; at the pharmacy, and a child at our kindergarten was hospitalised with a secondary infection.
I have a patient portal through my GP and the Min of Health, but I don't use it. I asked my doctor for his email and have shared some records I've made of conditions, and consulted for referrals this way. Otherwise I've searched generally, and on the Min website for current information on community pandemics, but little exists.
I want to promote health information sharing so we can gain better knowledge of emerging strains; course and treatment. Clearer diagnostics would allow services to generate and disseminate better information. For example, I haven't visited the doctor for this one; I expect I would be told it's a cold or flu. I want to know the name of the pathogen, and it's pattern of transmission.
