Tawa Lions Saturday Market
This coming Saturday 12 May the Tawa Lions Market at Outlet City will be open from 9am to 2pm, featuring our regular Fruit and Vegetable vendor along with our own stall with eggs and honey. Saturday's weather forecast is looking good so we expect a good turnout of other stalls plus our Lions used book stall will be out for your perusal.
This week we have Honey and egg news.
For many years now we have sold standard and (lately) barn eggs - but unfortunately, this cannot continue. Egg producers are moving to free-range only, so barn egg prices are increasing to a level where they priced around the same as free-range. We will therefore not be restocking barn eggs. This week we have remaining stock at current prices. A reminder that at our market a dozen is 12 (not 10) eggs, and a tray is 30 eggs (not 20).
Last week we introduced Waireka Rewarewa honey in 500g jars - with free tasting. This will be available again this week. We have Helen's honey - creamed Meadow, Bush and Manuka/Bush along with Liquid Meadow.
Tawa Lions gratefully acknowledges the support of Outlet City in providing the venue for our Market.
Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.

85.6% Yes

13.2% No

What's your favourite recipe for courgettes?
Kia ora neighbours. If you've got a family recipe for courgettes, we'd love to see it and maybe publish it in our magazine. Send your recipe to mailbox@nzgardener.co.nz, and if we use it in the mag, you will receive a free copy of our January 2025 issue.
The Hikoi on Tuesday 19th
I copied this from a Facebook page: The expected route of the hīkoi on Tuesday is from Takapuwahia Maree in Esldon towards Porirua and along Kenepuru Drive to Tawa, then up Middleton Road to Johnsonville, down Ngaraunga George and along the old Hutt Road to Wellington. They are anticipating significant congestion on the roads between 06.00am and 12.30pm.
