Notice From the Takanini Neighbourhood Policing Team

Glenn Torrens from Papakura Community Crimewatch Patrol

Below is a notice from the Takanini Policing Team please read has important information

Crime Prevention in Takanini and Papakura North

Counties Manukau South Police have increased Police presence into Takanini and Papakura North to prevent criminal offending.

A District Prevention unit has been deployed to work alongside our Neighbourhood Policing Teams and residents will see more patrols in the area.

The public can assist Police to prevent crime by ensuring that your house and vehicles are secure.

Now that we have warmer weather this can mean that we leave our homes more vulnerable to opportunistic offenders who are targeting windows and doors that are left open. Even if you are having a barbeque at the rear of your property or mowing the lawns, take time to make sure the front of your house is locked and secured and the garage is also locked. It only takes a moment of inattention for someone to enter your property.

The same applies to vehicles, ensure they are locked with no valuables visible to opportunist offenders.

We also need public assistance if you see a crime occurring or see a suspicious person or vehicle in your neighbourhood. If it’s happening now then call Police on 111. If you have information to pass on about crime that has already happened, that can be done at your local Police station or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Do you want to be more involved in preventing crime in your neighbourhood? You could consider becoming a volunteer with the Community Crime watch patrols. These patrols are another set of eyes for police in the area and they are an effective crime prevention initiative.

We also have some excellent Neighbourhood support groups established that are looking for more members.

If you would like to be participate in Neighbourhood support or crime watch patrols or you require any crime prevention information please email the Takanini Neighbourhood Police team: takanininpt@police.govt.nz

Further information and crime prevention advice can be found on our Police website or Facebook page:

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.

This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
