Drones legal in Tokoroa parks this summer
The South Waikato District Council has listened to the more than 25 submissions on the issue of whether drones should be allowed in the town's parks and stated that it is their intention that nobody be prosecuted for such activities.
This is a great step forward and gives Tokoroa residents and their children the same freedoms as residents of neighbouring towns and cities such as Rotorua and Tauranga.
On Thursday, Mayor Jenny Shattock drew the winner of a small drone which was offered as a prize by local drone enthusiast Mr Bruce Simpson.
"It is great to see that the council has listened to the voice of the people on this issue, a voice that was overwhelmingly in favour of allowing our people and their children to fly their toys and small drones in their parks" said Simpson.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
