Wellington Family History OPEN DAY - 5th August 2017
“All those interested in family history are warmly invited to an Open Day on 5 August 9am-4pm at Samuel Marsden Collegiate School, Karori. Robyn Williams, Board Chair of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists (NZSG) will launch this August Family History Month event which has the theme From the Past Into the Future.
For $10 entry visitors will have access to a great line-up of speakers including Michelle Patient presenting a full day on DNA as a genealogy tool. Michelle has a science and technology background and is a past president of the NZ Society of Genealogists, so is uniquely qualified to assist anyone, uninitiated or otherwise, to understand how to use DNA as a research tool. Michelle’s presentation is in a large auditorium, and pre-booking is not required.
Topics other speakers will cover are: starting family history research; using Papers Past and Archives NZ’s Archway site; oral history; and WW1. A range of exhibitors will provide help for both beginners and experienced genealogists. Go to tinyurl.com... for full programme, venue and location details.”
The Open Day is being organised by Wellington NZSG branches, convened by Mary Shadbolt, deputy chair NZSG. Mary is available to be interviewed at any time and can be contacted on 021 296 7721, or at MS.Director@genealogy.org.nz
Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
