Flooding and power outages in Auckland
Due to extensive flooding and slipping, crews are currently unable to access damage causing outages in Whitford, parts of Takanini and Papakura, Clevedon and Kawakawa Bay. It is unsafe for crews to enter or work in the flooded area and Police have closed critical roads until at least 10pm tonight, when we will reassess the situation.
It's unlikely many of these residents will have power restored overnight and we are working with police to disperse that message into the community. In the meantime we're looking into options to survey the network situation out there, including aerial via helicopter.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
