Pyes Pa Playcentre February Update

Carlene McEwen (nee Dredge) from Pyes Pa Playcentre

A huge thanks to Pyes Pa Community Newsletter who publish a fantastic publication and allow us to put our monthly update into this. Here is our February Update:

Enjoying the last of summer and we are thankful for the lovely big tree in our centre garden providing shade and a great place for the children to climb on. Our playground also has some beautiful views out over the Bay of Plenty.

We have started a focus on an individual child per session, this is really cool way to get to know some of the children we might not know that well and for other parents and caregivers to pick up on new development and skills for that child. It's also a great way of picking up ideas to take back and use with your own children.

This term we have also introduced a weekly interest activity and over the last couple of weeks we had some some Insect and bug catching with a view to setting up a colony at Playcentre, which is lots of fun. This has definitely sparked some interest with some children even expanding their learning in their own home environments. The next David Attenborough's of the world may just be from Pyes Pa!

We are all looking forward to our upcoming trips, the first is blue berry picking then back to centre to do some process cooking with our fruit and a trip to Rat island to do some treasure hunting. And we are having a portfolio evening planned for the beginning of March, a time for parents to get together, be creative and help create special memories of our time at Playcentre. And then a creativity workshop will also be held at our centre mid March, these courses are free for Playcentre members and also give us credits on the NZQA framework.

Our fundraising campaign has started at The Warehouse - Tauriko Crossing for replacing our deck roof, so thank you for everyone that is supporting us, its on until July 2017 so keep adding those tokens into our box :-) We also need to get an architect or landscape gardener to help us formulate our vision and then put into plans, so if you know anyone that is available please let us know.

Finally, our carpentry area stock is a bit depleted and if anyone has any shorter nails with large heads on, we would love them please.

Pyes Pa Playcentre sessions run on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30-12:00, all new families welcome. www.facebook.com...
